A disturbing letter Brian Laundrie’s mother sent him was finally released to the public on Wednesday.
Laundrie became infamous in 2021 after he returned home from a cross-country road trip without his fiancé, Gabby Petito.
Petito’s body was finally discovered in Bridger-Teton National Forest on September 19, eight days after she was reported missing by her parents. Investigators believe she was killed sometime in late August.
Before he could be questioned by police, Laundrie disappeared from his parents’ home in North Port, Florida.
He was eventually found dead in the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in October 2021, along with a note confessing to his fiancé’s murder.
Investigators also found a letter with his belongings from Laundrie’s mother, Roberta Laundrie. It was finally made public on Wednesday after a judge ruled that Petito’s parents can use it as evidence in a lawsuit against Laundrie’s parents.
The letter is addressed to Brian Christopher Laundrie, but is undated. Instead, the instructions ‘burn after reading’ are written in large letters below the recipient’s name.
In the letter, Roberta Laundrie tells her son that she will love him no matter what he does, including ‘threats,’ ‘sin,’ and ‘the thinkable or unthinkable.’
She wrote: ‘If you’re in jail, I will bake a cake with a file in it. If you need to dispose of a body, I will show up with a shovel and garbage bags. If you fly to the moon, I will be watching the skies for your re-entry. If you say you hate my guts, I’ll get new guts.’
The letter closes with a Bible passage, from the book of Romans 8:38.
Roberta Laundrie later testified that she wrote this letter in May 2021, before her son set off on the cross-country road trip with his fiancé.
However, the letter does not mention or even allude to Petito. Laundrie’s mother insisted the letter had no connection to her death in August 2021.
‘I never would have fathomed the events that unfolded months later between Brian and Gabby would reflect the words in my letter,’ Roberta told the court in a letter.
