A 26-year-old woman has been arrested after a fetus was discovered left on a sidewalk.
Police responded to a 911 call after a passerby found a dead fetus on the 1800 block of South Dort Highway in Flint, Michigan, late Tuesday.
The caller directed cops ‘to a male fetus lying on the sidewalk’, stated the City of Flint Police Department on Facebook on Thursday.
‘There were no signs of life at that time,’ stated the department.
The gestational age of the fetus was 20 to 23 weeks, according to a medical examiner.
Investigators the next day located a woman who had been pregnant. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. After being discharged from the facility, the woman was arrested and is being held at Genesee County Jail. Her identity was not immediately released.
County prosecutors are reviewing evidence and may press charges against the woman.
The incident comes five months after a pregnant woman was found dead while her fetus was recovered in another location. The victim, Ashley Bush, 33, who was 31 weeks pregnant, was found shot in Missouri.
A married couple, Amber and Jamie Waterman, allegedly met with Bush in Marysville, Arkansas, and took her away as she was under the impression that she would have a job interview 30 miles away. The pair were arrested on kidnapping charges in Bush’s disappearance.
In another tragic incident in August 2018, cleaners found a dead fetus stuffed in an airplane toilet. The fetus was discovered on an American Airlines plane at LaGuardia Airport in New York City, when a cleaner found that a large amount of toilet paper was pulled and covered the inside of the bowl. While pulling the toilet paper, the cleaner saw the fetus’ foot. It was not immediately known how the fetus died.
